Vickers Engineering currently supplies over 1800 different part numbers on a Kan-Ban, or 'just in time', delivery basis. Agreements with three customers, currently using the system, range from one to five years.
Kan-Ban delivery is a LEAN MANUFACTURING technique that benefits both the end customer, and Vickers Engineering. Here's how it works. The two parties, Vickers and the end customer, compile a package of part numbers. These parts can be of similar nature, or different manufacturing specifications. EAU's, or Estimated Annual Usage, are then applied to each individual part number. Vickers then produces a strategic quantity of each component rather than a traditional blanket quantity, thus minimizing inventory, machine, and labor costs!
When completed, the components are placed into an inventory system, and released to the customer on a scheduled or as needed basis. This system allows scheduling and cost flexibility for Vickers, while adding price, inventory, and floor space savings for our customers.
